Business Intelligence TrainingBusiness intelligence training is simply the process of learning the best methods, techniques and ways of using software and practices focused on business intelligence. Business intelligence training is often associated with the initial business intelligence (BI) purchase, however business intelligence training is an on-going aspect of using BI software that is used to effectively get the most benefit from your BI investment. Through business intelligence training your company can learn to better deal with changing economic conditions and to get the highest ROI from your BI investment. Benefits of Business Intelligence TrainingThe primary, short-term benefit of business intelligence training is that you will become more familiar with the BI software you have chosen. Longer term, however, the benefits of thorough business intelligence training will result in better use of your BI software and in better results that will lead to smarter business decisions. Proper business intelligence training involves more than just knowing where the features are and what they do, thorough business intelligence training should put the context in place for you to help you understand how the features of the BI software can help you make better business decisions. Types of Business Intelligence TrainingBusiness intelligence training typically is centered around two areas: features training is a type of business intelligence training that focuses on what features are available and how to use them. This type of business intelligence training is always the first step to getting the most from your software and usually involves working with data models that are unrelated to your business. Don't worry if you don't quite yet understand how your BI investment will help you during this form of business intelligence training. The second type of business intelligence training addresses this concern and focuses on helping you understand how to use your data and the BI tool in order to get best use from it. It is critical that before embarking on this latter form of business intelligence training that all users be well versed in the BI software's features and functions. How to Get Business Intelligence TrainingBusiness intelligence training is available typically from one of two sources. The software vendor is the most obvious place to start your business intelligence training and will typically focus on features of the software and how to use them. While this form of business intelligence training may give you some business context it is often not within the software vendor's realm of expertise to provide the proper context for you. In order to get context and the second type of business intelligence training you may have to hire a consultant or VAR. Once again your best source for identifying a reseller or consultant who could provide this form of business intelligence training is probably your software vendor since they will probably have a list of certified resellers and VARs who are experts in your line of business and who are well trained on their Bi software. Long Term Business Intelligence TrainingOnce your initial round of business intelligence training is complete it's also critical to establish a regular form of 'refresher' business intelligence training that will occur on a regular basis. This form of business intelligence training might even be self-paced through watching business intelligence training videos and demonstrations your BI vendor may have available. This form of business intelligence training is ideal in ensuring that your remain fluent with new features of the software as new releases become available. |
